GRANITE

A very hard form of igneous stone that’s regionally available from ancient volcanic deposits found mostly in the Llano Uplift region of Texas.

DECOMPOSED VS. CRUSHED + WASHED

Decomposed granite is very much like sand or soil without the organic matter.  DG, as the stuff’s often called, has a mixture of grain sizes, including the fine stuff.  Caution: DG is a bit muddy when wet.  The crushed + washed variety is cleaner because the fines have been removed, but feels a bit like pea gravel underfoot.

ENCHANTED ROCK

DESIGN SUPPORT

Granite is widely suitable as either active (occassional to high human programmed usage) or passive usage.  Due to coloration, heat-gain in full sun is low.  Albedo (light reflectivity) is low. Granite has a range of color from pink to rusty brown.
