EXOTIC HARDWOOD

When it comes to construction materials, Ecotopes favors the most long-lasting, versatile + beautiful options available.  We use only sustainably harvested Brazilian hardwoods for furnishings, fixtures + decking.

SURFACE DYNAMICS

These hardwoods create an outstanding active surface, one that’s programmed for any human usage level.  Great for treads on decks + steps, but also seating + dining.

HARDWOOD TYPES

Ecotopes has two favorite hardwoods: garapa + ipe.  Garapa is golden + gorgeous, while ipe is dense + chocolatey.  There are several other varieties of exotic hardwood that we’d be happy to work with too, like tigerwood, cumaru, or bamboo.

EXTENDED CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Supported by ongoing research, Ecotopes is recommending the annual use of Austrailian hardwood oil or Brazillian rosewood oil for exotic hardwoods used as a walking surface. For seating, we recommend treating with varnish every other year.

DESIGN SUPPORT

Hardwoods are widely suitable as either active (occassional to high human programmed usage) or passive usage.  These products are an incredibly durable material that is often used for decks, boardwalks, furnishings or fences.

SUSTAINABLE SOURCE

Ecotopes seeks to promote selective harvesting of trees using the techniques established by the Tropical Forest Foundation to protect forest canopy, seed trees and water sources which provides for conservation and utilization of forest resources.  Learn more at www.iwpawood.org.
